The vOICe can do much more. It is a full blown visual prosthesis. I use it as my primary tool to take photographs.
It is indeed all about the brain interpretting images. You do need to learn a few tricks such as judging perspectives; as for the debate in the comments section, the community does indeed appreciate art. The photographer makes the offer of a bunch of pixels and if people like it, he creates more.

A fascinating article on augmented reality. The vOICe could be used to facilitate this process by helping the user point the camwra. The vOICe on the pc can handle OCR. It can also read shortcodes.

TG Daily (c) – Anyone can use echolocation, say researchers.
Nothing new but it is good to have research prove rthis.
I do not see how though active echolocation can distinguish between trees and so on. Passive echolocation is good and is better for gauging distance.
This is my experience of course.

See this snapshot of the inside of the icecream counter / freezer at an icecream parler that serves Gelato icecream.
The smell is wonderful and the staff is friendly. The parler also serves pies from Greece.

I cannot comment on musicians but listening to soundscapes does have me trying to find images when I am listening to songs

An interesting paper dealing with creating training regimes for people using prosphetic vision devices. As regards the vOICe, activities such as reading can be ignored until the user gains proficiency but the other activities such as going down a corridor that has large symbols painted on the walls can be carried out and are applicable.
